1) What are the requirements to be a nanny with your company?

The general requirements to be eligible for placement through our company are that you have at least 3 years of childcare experience, pass a background check, and be able to communicate well in English. You also must be authorized to work in the United States. Specific families will have additional requirements, which we take into consideration when making matches. We also track our nanny’s record to make sure our clients are satisfied.

2) How do you qualify your families?

Our intake process includes an extensive Intake Questionnaire that all families must complete and an in-person or phone meeting. We will share information about the family with you prior to your meeting together, then you’ll have a chance to meet them yourself in an interview.

3) How much will I get paid?

Families and nannies negotiate their own terms of employment, so that is, in part, up to you. The general range in the DC is $25+/hour depending on the number of kids under the nannies care, experience and skills.

4) What are the job requirements?

In addition to providing loving, attentive, and energetic childcare, all of our nannies must agree to do light housework as it pertains to the child (washing dishes, child’s laundry, meal prep). Families may have additional requirements that you will be notified of before a match is made.

5) Must I be a U.S. citizen?

You must be legally authorized to work in the United States, but you do not need to be a citizen. Permanent residents (Green Card holders) are eligible too.

6) What if the family decides we’re not the right fit?

If this happens to you, you’ll go back into our candidate pool to be considered for other open positions.

7) What if I don’t think the family is the right fit?

We ask our nannies to make a 1-year commitment, but we also know that a match has to work for both parties. It’s your right to decide the job isn’t working out.

8) Do I need a driver’s license and/or a car?

Driving is not a general requirement to be placed through our service, but many families will make it a requirement to be matched with them.

 9) How many hours a day should I expect to work?

Most of our families need their nannies to work approximately 7-10 hours a day. The specific number of hours is up to the family, and is something for you to consider when deciding whether this is the right match for you and when negotiating your compensation.

10) Will I have benefits/insurance?

Families and nannies negotiate their own terms of employment. Nannies are protected by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

 11) What is my relationship with Nannies by Sarah once I begin employment?

We will keep in close touch with you during the first couple of months to ensure the match is working out. After that, we’ll stay in periodic touch. Once the children are older and no longer need a nanny, we will be happy to you have back in our candidate pool and help you find your next family.

12) Do I have to pay a fee to Nannies by Sarah?

No.

13) How do I apply?

Fill out the online application form. Sarah will then call you.
